History/Mission

Brief History:
In a nutshell, we're just some guys and gals just like you. While watching and listening to TV and radio for the past few years we've realized, what we were being bombarded with wasn't the best entertainment out there, it was simply the most marketed.

Broadcast and recording industries are a sham, and they have the full support of the FCC, they play the bands that they are paid to play, not unsigned bands, or bands on labels that don't kickback to their chain of command.

Without beating around the bush too much, the Recording Industry, The Broadcast Community, and the large communications companies that own them are corrupt and believe that the only purpose of music is to earn them a buck, and they will manipulate their power in any way possible to make even more money.

Mission:
Spiritofradio.net will set up a commercial (Class B) FM radio station that provides unique, independent music to the Cincinnati/Dayton metropolitan areas. In addition we will do the following:
  • Bring public attention to the corruption that exists in the Industry, and provide services and information on how to obtain services that were until recently exclusive to the recording industry.
  • Strive to open other stations serving other metropolitan areas, and encourage the flow of new music between these areas, insuring that bands will see the widest possible distribution of their music to new listeners.
  • Establish new standards of communications between radio stations, the community, the musicians, and the listeners.
  • Deal with advertisers in a manner that serves the best interests of the listeners and the musicians first.
  • Provide the public, our listeners, and the community a forum in which they can help us best determine corporate policy and procedure, and call us on our mistakes.

Our primary format will be Rock/Alternative music, but we will have programs and slots designed to cater to listeners of other forms of music as well.

Artists will have to give us a ASCAP waiver, and a release to play their music and we will pay THE ARTIST DIRECTLY for playing their music.
Initially we won't be able to pay much if anything (thus the waiver) but we would eventually like to get to the point where we can pay the artist as much as possible per play. (after station ID's news, advertising, weather, and any non-musical content, there's only about 350 songs a day average that can be played on a station, per day. $350/day is not impossible for a station with even moderate advertising revenue. We would love to be able to pay each artist a dollar or more, every time we play their song, the more advertising we get, the more we'll pay out.)

Our goal is to go from application to broadcast in under 3 years, (A feat that the FCC makes almost impossible, and is in direct counter interest to the public)

We're not looking to get rich here, we just want to earn a living doing what we love, while helping provide diverse, quality entertainment for a change. And who knows we may help get the music industry out of the gutter.

Redefine "Pop"

Of course we want to play the music that's popular, but we want to make radio a listener driven service once again, the people listening to the station should be ones deciding what is and is not popular, not the advertisers, and certainly not the recording industry.
